Working: 2050 is a series of fictional interviews with workers of the future.

Inspired by Studs Terkel’s Working and Max Brooks’ World War Z, we want to know:

What will work look like in 30 years?

Read here.

Listen here.

Wait who is Studs Terkel? What is “Working”?

Read this.

Is it a utopia or a dystopia?

It depends — a world where this can get published/isn’t just a feudal hellscape is optimistic, no?

For now, we’re assuming it’s somewhere in the middle — utopia for some, dystopia for some, a fun combo that leans towards dystopia for most. Kind of like now.

Can I write/record/draw an interview?

Yes! Working 2050 essays are 800–1000 words, and include an audio component.

To pitch, send your title/outline/deadline here. We try to stay world consistent + not do the same job. If you’re interested, check out previous versions here.

I don’t think people will have job titles in the future they’ll just be various types of influencer OR no way man we’ll all
