Octavia Robinson’s office space is small but still seems spacious. For our interview, she sits on a reclaimed wooden stool right next to me. I’m sitting on a classic therapy couch — black, low back, good for laying down.

On some weird cultural archetype level, it feels strange to be asking her questions — I did think about laying down. But the fact that’s she’s sitting almost next to me makes it a little easier. We’re about to go on a journey together.

OCTAVIA: My name is Octavia Robinson and I am a limerence therapist.

Limerence, for those who haven’t heard the clinical term before, is often described as disordered or disruptive intense passion. My practice is based on self actualization entertainment. The trailer we just watched is from a 2 season course I use with couples in my practice that struggle with romantic limerence, a specialty area of mine.

Could you tell us a little bit more about the day to day of your work? How does this course work? How do you use it? Do you watch this whole show with the couples you work with?

OCTAVIA: Oh god. No, that would be too much, even for me!
